2010-2011
Dear Young Singers and Parents
I hope you have all had a lovely summer. It’s already time to welcome you to the 2010-2011 Season for the Young Singers. It promises to be an exciting one. All the dates of concerts and events are in the leaflets which I've sent by post. We say a very big Thank You to James Walker, who left the choir three years ago but who still supports us with our publicity, including a soon-to-be launched new website - watch this space!
Please make sure you put all the dates in everyone’s diary – you won’t want to miss anything this season. We begin with a concert on 16th October – this is after only 7 rehearsals so make sure you don’t miss any!! And then Christmas is upon us – please put all the December dates in your diary – and let’s hope it doesn’t snow.
Please can I also ask members of the Chamber Choir to get 12th March 2011 in your diaries – we’re going to perform The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace in Halifax Minster, raising money for Overgate Hospice. The event is open to adults as well as singers in year 9 and above and we extend a warm invitation to all HYS parents who sing to join in. More details later – the important thing is the date – please keep it clear for this event.
All the information you need for the season is on this page and I'll be using this to communicate with you.
Recruitment: Please pass some leaflets to your friends and encourage them to come and sing with us. Rehearsals begin on Thursday 2nd September. Please also volunteer to take leaflets into your school for both school friends and teachers. Please ring me for more leaflets on 01422 822393.
Money: Subs will remain at £55 this season - what good value this is! Please make cheques payable to ‘Halifax Young Singers’ and make sure subs are paid before the end of September. If you wish to pay £25 in September and £30 in January, that is fine.
The Monthly Draw needs 100 members this year to cover the cost of music. Details are enclosed. Please complete your application form and return it to Kalyani or to me. Don’t leave the draw to other parents to support – we’re all responsible for fundraising at HYS so that we can provide the wonderful music-making opportunities for all the members of the choir. There will be bag packing and carol singing at Tescos again this year – on 11th December – more details shortly.
Also vital for the continued success of the choir is a good audience at our concerts at Carlton. We don’t receive any funding other than that which we raise ourselves. Parents please do try to fill the audience at Carlton concerts as the income from these events help to keep subs at just £55.
Thank you all for your loyal support of this very special choir – here’s to another great season. See you all – with your friends - on 2nd September.
Sue
